•Juan Jose H. – Defendant extradited from Central America as part of an international criminal conspiracy by the DEA and US Coast Guard. He was charged in both the Southern District of Florida in Miami and Washington D.C. with conspiracy to import into the United States in excess of 1500 kilograms of cocaine. Through a series of motions and requests for variances from the sentencing guidelines, defendant sentenced to a total of 70 months in federal prison.

•Thomas D. - Defendant extradited from Great Britain. Defendant charged with importation of over 1000 kilograms of cocaine into the United States. US District Court Miami imposed a sentence of 64 months, with reductions for drug and alcohol programs and credit for time served in Great Britain, Defendant served three years in federal prison.

•Francisco T.- Defendant extradited (kidnapped) from Central America. Defendant charged in US District Court in Washington DC and United States District Court Northern District of Illinois as a reputed high ranking member of a Mexican drug cartel. Mercado & Rengel assisted in the review of all discovery and preparation of sentencing memorandums.

•Ruperto R. - Defendant extradited from Colombia along with 20 members of Colombian drug cartel charged in United States District Court in Miami. Counsels were able to obtain various role reductions for defendant, including minor role and credit for all time awaiting extradition from Combíta prison in Colombia.

•Carlos C. A. - Mercado & Rengel represented defendant arrested in Miami for attempting to export 150 M-16 assault rifles to paramilitary groups in Colombia. Counsels were able to obtain numerous concessions from the United States Attorney and the Defendant was sentenced to two years in federal Prison.

•Ricardo A.-A. - Defendant extradited from Honduras after being arrested on a vessel with 1500 kilograms of cocaine and charged in United States District Court in Miami. Mercado & Rengel were able to obtain role reduction for defendant over Government's objection.

•Raul B. - Defendant extradited from Colombia and charged in multi-defendant drug importation conspiracy through Miami International Airport by DEA and multi-agency law enforcement task force in Miami. Mercado & Rengel handled all sentencing issues as well as motions to dismiss based on forum and jurisdictional issues.

•Luz M. V.C. & Carlos C. - Mercado & Rengel represented husband and wife charged in United States District Court in New Jersey and United States District Court in Miami with money laundering. Counsels were able to have case in Miami dismissed and defendant received minor role reductions as well as reduced amount of loss. Wife sentenced to time served and husband given sentence of 18 months.

•Eric W. - Defendant charged in United States District Court Southern District of Florida with possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. Defendant found not guilty after a jury trial.

•Roberto S. A. - Defendant charged in United States District Court Southern District of Florida with Hobbes Act Robbery and Conspiracy to possess in excess of 50 kilograms of cocaine. First trial before jury resulted in hung jury; at second trial defendant found not guilty of three of four counts.

•Clyde D. - Defendant charged in United States District Court Southern District of Florida in Miami with possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. Case Dismissed by United States Attorney after revelation that detectives falsified police reports in cases.

•Eddie R. - Defendant charged in United States District Court Southern District of Florida with conspiracy to traffic in cocaine. Prosecution and US Probation recommend 108-135 months; Mercado & Rengel filed motion to depart from guidelines based on sentencing entrapment and minor role, Defendant sentenced to 24 months in prison.

•Anthony L. - Defendant charged in United States District Court in high profile gun case facing fifteen years in prison with threats to law enforcement posted on You Tube. Mercado & Rengel able to file numerous motions and extensive mitigation information and defendant sentenced to 6 months in federal prison.

•Gilberto M. - Defendant charged in United States District Court in Connecticut with conspiracy to traffic in over 50 kilograms of cocaine facing 40 years in prison. •Rudy Segura - Defendant charged in United States District Court in Connecticut with conspiracy to traffic in over 1000 kilograms of cocaine facing life in prison under RICO and operation of a Continuing Criminal Enterprise (CCE) in largest case state of Connecticut history. Mercado & Rengel through motion for downward departure and variance from Federal Sentencing Guidelines obtain sentence of 78 months in federal prison.

•Perez G. - Defendant charged in United States District Court Connecticut with reentering the United States after having been deported and facing ten years in prison due to aggravating circumstances. Mercado & Rengel handle sentence and convince a judge of defendant’s diminished capacity through use of expert testimony. Defendant sentenced to 18 months, which were already served.

•Luis R. - Defendant charged in United States District Court in New Hampshire with conspiracy to distribute in excess of five kilograms. Mercado & Rengel obtain sentence of 40 months after Court agrees to grant sentencing reductions based on role and modified sentencing entrapment issues.

•Julio Z.-A. - Defendant charged in United States District Court Massachusetts with reentering the United States after having been deported. Motion to dismiss charges granted and the Case Dismissed by the Judge.

•Luis M. - Defendant convicted after a jury trial in Massachusetts State Court for illegal firearm possession and being an armed career criminal. Mercado & Rengel handle appeal of the case and have the convictions reversed and set aside by the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts.

•Ramon T. - Defendant charged with rape in connection with a gang rape of a young victim. Five defendants charged in Massachusetts State Court and tried jointly with other defendants. Mercado & Rengel represent defendant at trial and he is the only defendant found not guilty of all counts after jury trial.

•Irwin G. - Defendant charged in Massachusetts State Court with raping his biological daughter over the course of several years beginning at age ten. Mercado & Rengel represent defendant at trial and he is the only defendant found not guilty of all counts after jury trial.

•Juan T. - Defendant charged in Massachusetts State Court with drug distribution within a school zone. Mercado & Rengel represent defendant at trial and he is found not guilty after trial.

•Judes N. - Defendant charged in Massachusetts State Court in two separate complaints with distribution of cocaine within school zones, both of which carried mandatory sentences. In each case, Judes was alleged to have sold to undercover officers or informants and was identified in court as the alleged seller of the drugs. Mercado & Rengel represent defendant at trial and he found not guilty in each case.

•Franklin M. - Defendant charged in Massachusetts State Court with trafficking in cocaine and facing a mandatory sentence in prison. The evidence in the case was that 100 grams of cocaine was discovered during a search of the defendant’s apartment while he was home after an undercover purchase. Mercado & Rengel represent defendant at trial and he found not guilty after a jury trial.

•Vidal C. - Defendant charged with attempted murder, home invasion, kidnapping, armed robbery with numerous eyewitnesses identifying him as one of the assailants. Mercado & Rengel handle trial in the Miami Circuit Court and the defendant found not guilty of all 13 counts.

•Luis L. - Defendant charged with operating a marijuana grow house in Miami. Mercado & Rengel represent defendant who was found outside of house by police with keys to the house and his fingerprints in room with marijuana, defendant found not guilty of all charges.
